Rap veterans 8Ball & MJG will release their album Ten Toes Down later this year on May 4. The project will be their first since leaving Bad Boy Records and will serve as their Grand Hustle Records debut.
During a recent interview with XXL, the Memphis duo discussed what fans can expect from the forthcoming release and why they decided to leave Diddy's label.
"I think, for both of us, our love of music and for southern hip-hop music -- just that love for it," said 8Ball in regards to their motivation for putting out the album.
"We had our ups and downs in doing this so it was about assuring our fans who love us and what we do that we gonna move forward and still be us."
"Basically, [with the title] we're saying stay true to what you do," added MJG. "If you just a hardworking person then take care of your family and live a regular life don't get deterred and turned around from what you trying to do."
As for their departure from Bad Boy both agreed that their relationship with the label had ran its course and that it was simply time to move on.
"We really just moved on because it was time to do something different. It was never really a long-term thing," revealed MJG. "It was a mutual agreement to move on and we went on to the next business venture."
The first single from the album, Bring It Back, was released in February and features Young Dro. T.I., Snoop Dogg, and Bun B will reportedly make appearances on the album as well.
